Roger Harper

Roger has practised almost exclusively in family law for more than 30 years.
Roger grew up in regional New South Wales before moving to Sydney to study science and law at UNSW. His first roles as a solicitor were in private practice in Campbelltown and Parramatta. He then joined Legal Aid NSW in the Family Litigation Section, where he remained for seven years, apart from a secondment to the Criminal Law Division in Bankstown.
Roger was accredited as a specialist in Family Law in 1999.
Upon being called to the Bar, his practice expanded to include a wide range of matters before the Supreme Court, District Court and Family Court.
With increasing seniority, his practice has shifted to complex property and parenting matters, including those involving third parties and appeals. He regularly appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 1), particularly in matters where parties seek equitable relief or where issues arise concerning the assertion or interpretation of trusts and corporations law.
Roger has extensive experience in international child abduction matters, acting both for and against State Central Authorities.
He regularly appears in the Sydney, Parramatta, Newcastle, Wollongong and Canberra registries of both Divisions of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
Roger has been a contributing editor to Family Law Reports and Halsbury’s Laws of Australia, and frequently presents at Legalwise seminars.
He has also served on the NSW Bar Association Professional Conduct Committee, the Media and Information Technology Committee, and the Family Law Committee.
Roger is an AIFLAM-accredited mediator and a registered family law arbitrator.
