James has a broad practice focused on commercial litigation, administrative law and criminal law.

Before coming to the Bar, James was a Senior Associate in the Commercial Litigation team at Clayton Utz acting in class actions, civil penalty proceedings, contractual disputes and regulatory investigations.

James was previously a solicitor in ASIC’s Chief Legal Office and a prosecutor in the Office of the ACT Director of Public Prosecutions.

James is an experienced advocate, appearing unled in numerous summary prosecutions, led and unled in ACT Supreme Court judge alone and jury trials and led in the ACT Court of Appeal. As a prosecutor, he was the instructing solicitor in three appeals to the High Court.

In addition to his professional experience, James was awarded subject prizes for Constitutional Law and Media Law.
