Called to the Bar in 2012, Brett maintains a mixed and broad practice, spanning both criminal law and civil law. His main areas of specialty include criminal law (including commercial crime and regulatory matters), commissions of inquiry, coronial inquests, corporate insolvency and bankruptcy, commercial law, administrative law and employment/industrial law.
Brett has extensive experience as an advocated and has appeared for a broad range of individual, corporate and government clients in every jurisdiction in New South Wales (both courts and tribunals) and in most Federal jurisdictions. He has acted for clients interstate, including in Victoria, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory, as well as in regional locations in New South Wales.
Complementing his litigation practice, Brett is also a Mediator accredited through the Resolution Institute and has conducted matters as a mediator and has appeared as counsel in mediations. He is a BarADR approved mediator and has been appointed to the District Court of New South Wales’ mediator panel. In addition to his accreditation and experience in mediations, Brett also practises across the full spectrum of alternative dispute resolution forums, including arbitration, conciliation and negotiation. Notably, he also completed a Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School.
Prior to being called to the Bar, Brett practised as a solicitor in both law firms and government departments, which has deepened his appreciation for the needs and requirements of different clients. He holds a Master of Business Law, a Masters of Criminal Law, a Diploma of Law and a Bachelor of Arts.
